The Mangrove Room

(Our 12-15 Year Old Environment)

The early adolescent is in a new stage of development.

The awe and wonder characteristic of the Elementary school student is replaced by a need for personal relevance and a need for individual meaning for the Junior High student.

This is also a time of intense social development both on an individual level and as a member of a community.

Curriculum is presented in a way that allows the student to engage and to immerse himself/herself in the material based on their individual interests and passions. There is significant emphasis on creative self-expression at this level.

The student is involved in a number of seminars, community projects and other collaborative ventures - a critical element as he begins the process of self-definition as a community member.
